When not confined to scrounging around the web for free tunes, here’s some of the music I’ve been listening to in the last couple of months. Playlist runs the gamut from deep house and dub to techno, lounge and downtempo tracks –- plus a few perky pop oddities in between.
If you like what you hear and decide to purchase the entire iMix or individual tracks, please know that this is not a money-making scheme; I just thought you, dear reader, might like a glimpse into my eclectic taste and see what strikes my fancy when money’s not an issue. Clicking the link should open up iTunes and take you directly to the iTunes Music Store iMix page. Molly O’Poverty’s Not On-The-Cheap iMix
FYI: the Jacob London, Trafik, Ananda Project, Rithma, UNKLE and Britalics tracks are also available at Beatport.com for 50¢ more (each) in higher quality 320kbps MP3s or 192kbps variable bit rate MP4s (AAC format).

Tomorrow night, Dubfire & Sharam of Deep Dish will be holding an event in Washington D.C. to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina. Not only will they donate all proceeds to the American Red Cross, the nightclub MCCXXIII will match all proceeds from the door! A great night of music for a very worthy cause.
More details are available here: DEEP DISH AT 1223.

Here’s the sitch: I’m moving and won’t be able to post for a week or so until my new broadband equipment arrives. Total bummer, I know. I thought I’d be able to post in advance like I did last week, but I simply ran out of time. But fear not! I’ll be back in a blink of an eye with more new, FREE music every day. That’s a Molly O’ Promise that’s as good as gold. Look for new posts in 7 to 10 days. Also, be sure to subscribe to my feed so you’ll know when I’m back at it.
If you haven’t already, now would be a good time to delve out the sidebar links and see what treasures await you!

I joined the fray with a post over here at Entertainment Weekly’s Popwatch.
[I promise non-MP3 related posts will be kept to a minimum at MO’PGTMFM]

Almost 1,500 hits thanks to a single mention on Lifehacker.com! Hope you liked what you heard.
Thanks for visiting and keep coming back… I’ve got plenty more free and legal tunes up my sleeve.

I finally got my LINKS section in shape. Take a gander at the side-bar, if you know what’s good for you!
Now I know some of you will be scratching your heads, asking “Why is the eMUSIC SERVICES & STORES links list so comprehensive when this is supposed to be a site about getting free music?” Well, silly, lots of those stores/services do offer special promos or regularly feature free tracks. Plus, it wouldn’t kill you to purchase other tracks by those artists you would like to support!
For instance, the iTunes Music Store has a free track available to download every week on the front page of the service (with new ones up each Tuesday). It’s a good way to explore different genres without risk. Even if you think you won’t like it, give it a listen anyway! The joy is in the discovery, remember?

Two full free albums by Chicago’s blippy electronic meisters, subatomicglue, are available for download at their website.
Molly’s best of the bunch picks: “aeonblue” and “rise of sol” off AEONBLUE; “the fall of sol” and “pixelguru” off GLOBALENEMY.
NOTE: Albums are posted in .FLAC format and are large downloads! You will need a special player or converter to get them to a more user-friendly format if you want to listen through iTunes or on your iPod. For macintosh, i recommend the free player Cog or Steve Dekorte’s $10 SoundConverter app to convert FLAC files to MP3.

For your listening pleasure, I’ve installed an in-line MP3 player so you can listen to my recommended free tracks before you download them. Enjoy! (Give it a minute to load the selection before you claim it’s not working, okay?)
Hey, if any of you are Flash geniuses and can help poor Molly out with making the player fit within the margins, I certainly would appreciate the help. I never claimed to be a web guru!

Sign up to test drive a Jaguar and get a beautiful 4 CD set compiled by Jason Bentley (of KCRW). Jaguar2005.com
Not only is the packaging gorgeous but so is the music. Volume 2.3 is the best of the four.
For the record: I asked someone who was already interested in purchasing a new car, so I had him sign up. He was never contacted by a Jaguar sales rep and less than three weeks later, the CD set appeared in his mail box. I can’t vouch for your experience, but the CDs more than offset any inconvenience… especially since, in both our cases, there was none!

I was so enamored with The KLF back in the day and “3am Eternal” was one of my favorite tracks. Here, Freeagent (aka Kramer) remixes this classic into a late night dub-induced frenzy. Grab the 2 mixes for FREE over at Queep Organic Music.

Each week on MOLLY O’POVERTY’S GUIDE TO (MOSTLY) FREE MUSIC on the web, I’ll be spotlighting artists I think are worth sharing.
There’s tons of free and legal (either artist or label sanctioned) music out there that’s free for the taking… Come on in and grab it!
